Dengue cases down

Dengue cases in the city are decreasing, following a seasonal and cyclical pattern same as last year.

This was the data presented by City Health Services Office (CHSO) head Rowena Galpo during the management committee meeting with Mayor Benjamin Magalong and city executives present.

From Jan. 1 up to Sept. 19 this year however, there are 2,651 cases with 4 deaths; while in the same period last year, pegged as morbidity week (MW) 1 to 37; there were 980 cases and 7 deaths.

A comparative graph shows spikes on morbidity weeks 19, 21, 23, 25 and 29; while a downward trend is seen on morbidity weeks 33, 35 and 37.

According to Dr. Galpo, once 2022 cases still follow last year’s cyclical pattern, a tapering would be seen, up to the end of this year.

The recorded decrease however should not be dealt with complacency, Dr. Galpo said, as she cautioned individuals who experience mild to severe symptoms such as high fever, rash, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pain to immediately proceed to the nearest health facility.

Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are day biters, usually after sunrise and around sunset, it was known.

Tires which are deemed Dengue-carrying mosquito egg harboring areas are being collected and destroyed or utilized for livelihood purposes. As of Sept. 10, there were 3,133 tires collected from 57 barangays.

Baguio residents are urged to be precautious, especially with health matters, Dr. Galpo said.  – JGF
