BCPO CAUTIONS PUBLIC AGAINST FUNDRAISING SCAMS

The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) is urging the public to remain vigilant against individuals or groups engaging in fraudulent fundraising activities and solicitations.
Authorities received reports that unsuspecting victims were enticed to participate in a supposed raffle activity, only to discover that it was a ploy to extort money under false pretenses. To avoid similar incidents, the BCPO reminds residents to verify the legitimacy of any fundraising drive, raffle, or solicitation activity before giving support or financial contribution.
City Director, PCOL RUEL D. TAGEL emphasized, “While we encourage genuine community efforts to extend help through fundraising, we must also protect ourselves from individuals who exploit the goodwill of others for personal gain.”
BCPO further advises the public to check proper permits or authorizations from local government offices before joining any raffle or solicitation drive. Likewise, beware of high-pressure tactics or promises of large rewards in exchange for money.
The BCPO assures the community that they are actively monitoring possible scam operations and will take immediate action against any individuals or groups found violating the law. Immediately report suspicious activities to the police through BCPO hotlines or via a 911 call. ###
