Kalipi urged to organize into a cooperative
Mayor Benjamin Magalong has ratified city council resolution no. 317, series of 2022, encouraging the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (Kalipi)-Baguio chapter to organize into a cooperative.
The approved measure states that Kalipi is a women’s federation in the Summer Capital which is a non-political, non-stock, non-profit and non-sectarian city-wide aggrupation of barangay women’s organizations/associations under the supervision of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
It is committed to respond to the need of organizing women in the barangays in order to genuinely promote women’s development and empowerment by harnessing their strengths and developing their full potential as human beings.
“Forming the Kalipi as a cooperative will help its members to coordinate among themselves without as much money or influence to support the best interests of each other,” the resolution states.
A cooperative is defined as an association/organization of persons that is owned and controlled by the people to meet their common economic, social, and/or cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically controlled enterprise. – Gaby B. Keith
