City okays market encounter as Cooperative Month opening activity

Mayor Benjamin Magalong ratified city council resolution no. 361, series of 2022, allowing the conduct of Session Road Market Encounter on the first Sunday of October this year as an opening activity in celebration of Cooperative Month in the city to provide an opportunity for cooperatives to showcase their products and services.
It reveals that Republic Act no. 11502 that declares the month of October of every year as ‘National Cooperative Month’ was signed into law on December 16, 2020 by then Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.
Ordinance no. 46, series of 2017, has institutionalized the conduct of Cooperative Month Celebration every October of every year in the Summer Capital and provided funds thereof, the resolution states.
“There is a need to provide more opportunities for cooperatives to showcase their products and services, hence the need to allow the conduct of Session Road Market Encounter on the first Sunday of October 2022 as an opening activity in celebration of Cooperative Month in the city of Baguio,” the approved measure adds.
The International Cooperative Alliance website defines cooperatives as ‘people-centered enterprises owned, controlled and run by and for their members to realize their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations’. – Gaby B. Keith
