CDRRMO to accredit volunteers; more to register

The City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) is on the verge of accrediting all its volunteers in order for them to receive the proper protection when helping the city during disasters.

In a media forum, February23, at City Hall, Local DRRM Officer III Louie Glen Lardizabal is urging all those wanting to become volunteers, no matter what their station in life may be, to register as CDRRMO volunteers so they can be accredited.

He said that his office just recently opened the portal for registration since they just received a National DRRMC memorandum on the guidelines on accreditation, mobilization and protection of community disaster volunteers.

β€œWe have always wanted to accredit our volunteers but there was no legal basis to do so.  With this memorandum, we now have the legal basis to earmark an amount to at least provide them with insurance so that they have some protection when they are helping the city during hazards,” Lardizabal said.

He said a volunteer must not be below 18 years of age and those aged 18 to 21 must have parental consent; the CDRRMO does not accept those who are students or are currently enrolled in school and only those who are working and already independent can register as volunteers.

Those interested can call the CDRRMO at 442-1900 and 1905 for more information. – Gaby B. Keith
