Barangay officials undergo orientation seminar o plastic-free ordinance

29 September 2021 – The Wastewater, Water and Ambient Air Management Division (WAMD) of the City Environment and Parks Management Office organized an orientation seminar on plastic and styrofoam free Baguio Ordinance at the General Services Office Multipurpose Hall, New Lucban last September 28, 2021.

The event was attended by the barangay officials of ABCR, Burnham-Legarda, Harrison-Carantes, Kabayanihan, Kagitingan, Lower General Luna, Malcolm Square, New Lucban and Upper Magsaysay as well as representatives of Permits and Licensing Division, Public Information Office, Public Order and Safety Division Special Services Division, all from the City Mayor’s Office, Baguio City Police Office, City Treasurer’s Office Department of Education-Baguio and General Services Office.

The orientation started with invocation from Engr. Paul Palangeo followed by the welcome address of Atty. Rhenan Diwas, City Environment and Parks Management Officer via zoom. Photo documentation was taken by Khalim Samantha Dicman and Roland Pangwe.

Engr. Joseph Willy, Pollution Control Officer III explained the background information on plastic, their categories and its applications, benefits and limitations and management.

After the lecture, salient features and proposed amendments on Ordinance Numbered 35, series of 2017 otherwise known as Regulating the Sale, Distribution and Use of Plastic/Carrying Bags and Styrofoam in the City of Baguio and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof and Executive Order 156, series of 2020 entitled Reconstituting the Plastic and Styrofoam Free Baguio Task Force, providing for its roles and duties issued by Mayor Benjamin Magalong were introduced by yours truly.

The Order defines the composition of the task force and their functions whose main task is to enforce and implement Ordinance No. 35-17 led by the City Environment and Parks Management Office.

The attendees were given tarpaulin on BAWAL AND PAGGAMIT NG PLASTIC CARRYING BAGS AT STYROFOAM with important provisions on the Ordinance for posting at their respective offices. – Wilber S. Suanding/CEPMO
