Search for Outstanding Citizens of Baguio launched

26 March 2021 – The local government and the Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio (SOCOB) recently launched the 2021 Search for Outstanding citizens of Baguio who will be awarded during the celebration of the city’s Charter Day anniversary on September 1, 2021.

The formal launching of the aforesaid search was done during the regular flag-raising ceremony held at the city hall grounds after Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong issued Executive Order No. 40, series of 2021 that appointed the chairperson and members of the Search Committee and Validation Committee for the said activity.

Last year, the SOCOB and the local government cancelled the conduct of the Search for Outstanding Citizens of Baguio because of the implementation of the various levels of community quarantine to contain the spread of the dreaded Corona virus Disease (COVID) 2019 in the city.

This year’s Search Committee shall be composed of not more than 5 SOCOB members who must come from and represent various sectors of society and must not have been a member of the committee for more than 2 consecutive years

The appointed chairperson of the Search Committee is Patricia Anne Gallardo-Marcelo representing women and gender rights while the members are Dr. Rachel M. Bugtong representing education, Marlene Baltazar-de Castro representing civil society organizations and young adults and Jimmy Lozano representing mass media.

Under the aforesaid order, the Search Committee shall disseminate information in the conduct of the search utilizing all possible means; accept all nominations; review the completeness of each submittal based on a checklist provided; request the nominator or nominee to submit lacking documents and accept them, provided that, they are submitted before the deadline and prepare a summary, after which all nominations and documents shall be submitted to the Validation Committee not later than June 25, 2021.

On the other hand the appointed chairperson of the Validation Committee shall be Dona Digna S. Rosario representing education while the members are Liza Agoot representing journalism; Engr. Susan Angaga representing cooperatives and technical professions; Dr. Marcelino C. Dizon, Jr. representing community services, Albert Fermin Guinguino representing mass media; Dr. “Rowena A. Pascual representing allied health professions and retired Judge Maria Clarita C. Tabin representing law and order.

The Validation Committee shall review and validate the information in the submitted nomination forms; prepare a summary of their findings for all the nominees who submitted all the required documents as per checklist; submit the summary to the Judging Committee together with all the documents not later than July 24, 2021 and not screen out any nominee who submitted all the required documents and neither rate, rank nor make any shortlist.

SOCOB president Dr. Elma Donaal stated that the Search Committee will be accepting nominations until June 18, 2021, thus, individuals who are aware of the significant contribution of people to the society should already start securing the required documents that will be submitted to the concerned committee for evaluation during the prescribed period. –  Dexter A.
