NUTRITION MONTH ACTIVITIES LAUNCHING
BAGUIO CITY -(02 July 2021) – Nutrition concerns continue to be a priority for barangay health advocates and the local government unit despite pandemic circumstances. Thus, on July 5 during the city hall flag-raising ceremonies, kick-off, or launching activities shall be done for a month-long barangay and city-wide celebration.
This was disclosed by City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Angelita Sabado last week, after a meeting with concerned offices.
Nutrition talking points shall be discussed by local health advocates in several radio programs and the media Ugnayan forum on July 7 and later dates to drum up support for the celebration, anchored on the theme, “Malnutrisyon Patuloy na Labanan, First 1000 days, Tutukan!”
On July 15, judges in the regional level virtually look over contestants singing original compositions either in English or in ethnic languages. City level contestants per integrated health districts shall be judged on July 12, in coordination with barangay officials and the barangay nutrition committee.
A nutrition agri-fair is conducted on July 16 -18 at the Igorot Park, as participated in by organized livelihood groups and 9 integrated health districts. Herbals, food products, recycled materials, nutrition books, and a nutrition reading booth shall be made available to the public during the fair, Sabado said.
Plans are also being laid out for an interpretative dance contest of the original composition of Barangay Nutrition Scholar Remy Martinez, “Duyan ng Pagmamahal.” This shall be done through virtual means, in compliance with health protocols.
In partnership with the Health Services Office Baguio City Nutrition Council (HSO-BCNC), the Mountain Province Mission (MPM) sponsors “Loaves of Love,” a public offering of bread and coffee for pregnant women every Sunday this month at their Navy Base office. A gift-giving and subsidiary feeding on July 11, and a healthy food showcase on July 25 shall also be conducted at their office.
Story-telling; survival gardens, cleanest eatery, and weight loss contests; community pantry, multi-vitamin and seed distribution, bloodletting, livelihood seminars, infant diaper distribution, and tree planting are among the activities in the barangays.
Other barangay activities such as men’s fair, community feeding; Nutri-lectures; pregnant and lactating mothers, family tik-tok, poster, slogan, poem-making, healthy baby, cooking contests; nutritious food processing demonstration, shall be conducted up to the culminating program on August 5. Winners of the different competitions, service awardees, best performing barangays will be feted on the said date at the Baguio Convention center.
