6 August 2021 – Mayor Benjamin Magalong warned the Delta variant will hit the city hard even as he assured that the city continues to pursue contingency measures to respond to this eventuality.
He also asked for the residents’ cooperation by exercising precautions and observing the Coronavirus diseases (COVID-19) protocols in and outside their homes and workplaces.
“Let us prepare. We’re going to get hit and we’re going to get hit hard. We have laid out contingency measures but it will be helpful if every one of us will do our part,” the mayor said in separate messages.
The mayor said he expects it to be a very difficult time for the city judging from what has been happening in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand and now in the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Cebu and Laoag.
He said the city was proactive in its preparations and did its best to cover all aspects including imposing restrictions on the city’s borders, mass gatherings and movement of the vulnerable age groups.
“But we cannot prevent it, we can only delay it for us to be able to put in place all the systems although we have been preparing for this more than two months ago but there are still a lot of things to do,” he said.
He said part of the action plans are the beefing up of isolation centers, hospital logistics, medicine and oxygen reserves and intensification of the disinfection, testing, contact tracing, isolation, lockdown and vaccination programs.
On the part of the constituents, the mayor appealed for cooperation in adhering to the minimum public health standards.
– Aileen P. Refuerzo
