Mayor thanks Fil-Chinese community for donations for COVID response
BAGUIO CITY (Feb. 6, 2021) – Mayor Benjamin Magalong thanked the Filipino-Chinese businessmen in the city for their generous donations that boosted the city’s Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) control and response program.
He expressed gratitude to businessmen Wilson Angheng and Kenneth So for donating two units of freezers for the COVID vaccines which he said is a big push to the city’s preparations for the inoculation program.
He said with the freezers now on hand, the city is now ready to accept vaccines that require storage of -70 degrees Celsius like Pfiezer and -25 C like the Moderna brand.
The mayor also cited the Fil-Chinese Community Association led by Executive Committee chair Peter Ng for donating 250 sacks of rice which were distributed to indigent families in the barangays pre-determined by the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development under OCSWD Officer Betty Fangasan.
Ng said that as their contribution to the city’s COVID-19 prevention campaign which gives importance to the preservation of the people’s health and safety, they agreed to cancel this year’s lunar New Year celebration and forego with the usually elaborate Chinese Spring Festival activities.
However, they retained the donation which they also do annually as an act of gratitude in welcoming the year of the Ox.
Ng said that as they have been doing every Spring Festival, the community seeks to “renew our ties and friendship making effort in strengthening camaraderie and continue to be key partners of the City Government of Baguio towards progress.
“It is our fervent desire to promote better understanding and cooperation between Filipino and Chinese communities to strengthen our historical friendship and unity,” he said.
Ng expressed the hope of the association for the anti-Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination program to roll out to put an end to the pandemic and revive the city’s livelihood and economic activities. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
