Mayor gets People Manager of the Year award

Mayor Benjamin Magalong was presented the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) People Manager of the Year in Public Sector Award by councilor and PMAP Regional Chapter president Vladimir Cayabas in Monday’s flag-raising rites at City Hall.

The Mayor was conferred the prestigious honor for “being an exemplary politician and public servant whose accomplishments are all principles-led, evidence and outcomes based and registering positive impact on the various constituencies and stakeholders he is duty bound to serve..”

“He parlayed his leadership brand in a simple theme:  Government Beyond Politics.  He understood this meant disrupting the status quo, changing mindsets steeped in a highly politicized bureaucracy, gathering support across all levels, cascading the dream and institutionalizing the changes to make sure the new culture is sustained.  He is a reality and that government can really be of the people, by the people and for the people,” the award reads.

Cayabas said PMAP is a professional, non-stock, not-for-profit organization of over 1,800 member companies and individual management executives engaged or interested in Human Resource Management (HRM) and Industrial Relations (IR) work and helps its members become more effective on the job by teaching the human aspect of management via career development forums and training programs.

Currently with 24 chapters all over the country, PMAP’s nationwide reach makes it a potent force for nation-building, he said.

“This award is a victory for Baguio and for the rank-and-file and officials of the city,” the Mayor said in his acceptance message.

“We must always remember who we are as public servants of the city of Baguio.  We should lead with a servant’s heart and service above self,” he said. — Gaby B. Keith
