Magalong pitches good governance to Region 1 HR managers

Mayor Benjamin Magalong pitched his core principle of “Good Governance Beyond Politics” to human resources management (HRM) practitioners of various government agencies in Region 1.
The mayor was invited by Civil Service Commission Regional Office 1 Director IV Hedy Jose Lardizabal as subject matter expert on the topic, “Journey Towards Good Governance and Public Management Reforms” during the 25th Regional Continuing Professional Education (CPE) for HRM Practitioners last Nov. 29, 2022 in Ilocos Sur.
Participants were HR leaders and practitioners, heads of agencies, elected officials, department heads, division chiefs, HRM officers, administrative officers and finance officers of the region’s government agencies.
The mayor accepted the invitation saying it is an opportunity to share this principle to as many people as possible.
The mayor said good governance is “harnessing everyone’s shared responsibility to do what is right, what is just and what is good in uplifting the life of our people so that what we can accomplish becomes a legacy worthy for the next generation to build on.”
“Good governance goes beyond traditional politics and is not only focused on fighting corruption. It is about empowerment, inclusiveness and authentic leadership. It is about a politics of hope, not a politics of frustration; not a politics of hate, but a politics of good will and mutual understanding; not a politics of criticism, but a politics of encouragement; and it is not a politics of lies, but a politics of truth,” the mayor said during his inaugural speech last June 30, 2022.
The mayor had also shared his vision to turn the core principle into a movement that “changes mindsets and creates a chain of positive changes.”
“Let’s make it a virus transmitted within the city and to other localities to create a chain of positive changes. We are stewards called upon to create a legacy that we can proudly pass on to the next generations,” he said. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
