Geohazard studies show similar results says CDRRMO
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) disclosed that the findings by foreign consultants that visited the city were similar to the earlier findings of the Cordillera office of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB-CAR) on the geohazards and risks in various high-risk areas in the Summer Capital.
Louie Glen Lardizabal, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) III, stated that the results of the studies conducted by the foreign consultants from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) bolstered the earlier findings of the MGB-CAR on the geohazards and risks in the city which could be used by the concerned offices of the local government and the barangays in their risk assessment and mapping activities leading towards the updating of the cityβs local disaster risk reduction and management plan and the climate adaptation program.
He pointed out that the results of all the studies on risk assessment and geohazards in the city will serve as the concrete basis for the concerned government agencies and the local government in the formulation of preventive and mitigating measures that will be implemented to lessen the exposure of life and limb to eminent danger during the occurrence of natural and man-made calamities.
Earlier, several foreign consultants from the ADB were in the city to conduct risk assessment and geohazard studies to help the local government in the formulation of preventive and mitigating measures that will prevent the loss of lives and damage to properties during the occurrence of natural and man-made calamities.
Lardizabal revealed that the results of the studies are readily available at the CDRRMO for the information, ready reference, guidance and further needed action of concerned government agencies, offices of the local government and the barangays.
He stipulated that the geohazard areas in the city, particularly the flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, have been clearly identified in the said studies where the same had already been disseminated to the concerned barangays for the putting in place of preventive and mitigating measures for the overall safety of their respective constituents. β Dexter A.
