City intensifies inspection of project sites to ensure safety, cleanliness

The city government will intensify its inspection of infrastructure project sites to ensure that contractors keep their worksites safe and clean.

Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong tasked City Administrator Bonifacio Dela Pena to lead the inspectorate team and ensure that implementation of numerous public works are of quality standard pursuant to project specifications including compliance to safety standards and cleanliness.

Several random inspections by no less than the mayor led to the discovery of unsightly, untidy workplace and alleged substandard projects.

Despite constant reminders to contractors to keep their worksites clean and orderly, the city government continues to receive complaints from the public due to inconveniences caused by disorganized and unclean project sites.

The mayor has been warning public works contractors that he will readily file necessary complaints or impose sanctions for inability to comply with safety standards pursuant to the occupational safety and health standards strictly imposed by the labor and employment department.

For the safety of construction workers, he asserted all contractors must provide personal protective equipment to avoid any untoward incidents in their work areas.

The inspectorate team is expected to come up with the list of erring contractors as basis in recommending possible blacklisting or prohibition of the said contractor to participate in city government funded projects.
The public may report untidy construction sites to the City Administrator’s Office by calling Tel. No. 442-5497 or email: cityadmph@gmail.com.  – JMPS
