Church joins Family Month celebration

Church joins Family Month celebration

The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints (CJCLDS) joins the 30th family month activities with the launching of the family history booth last Friday, Sept. 2 at the Baguio City Public Library (BCPL).

Representatives of the church; Zeny Garambas and Pastor Danilo Quinto earlier joined the family month steering committee meeting online to request the general public’s participation in their activities. Records show that the CJCLDS has always been active in family month activities, even in pre-pandemic times.

A family history booth in the library would cater to genealogical researchers, City librarian Easter Wahayna-Pablo said. Accordingly, curious family members have sought the library in hopes of finding their earliest ancestors, and even living relatives, she added. Soon, the library would be a center for research, not only in Baguio but also for the region.

For this year’s  family week celebration, most of the church’ activities are done online: the church’ devotionals on Sept. 25 with the theme, “Building Forever Families;” the Sept. 26 discussion about “Holy Habits and Righteous Routine;” and the Sept. 27 discussion on “Bridging Families Through Family History.”

The latter forum is focused on heart-to-heart talks series between older relatives, grandparents or great grandparents and the younger generation; getting them to spend quality time together.

Other online discussion is done on Sept. 29; “Bolstering the Family’s Mental Health,” with a mental health professional; and Sept. 30 “Boosting the Family Faith.”

Activities and devotionals online would be safe, especially for the vulnerables, Garambas said.

On Sept. 28, an innovative activity is scheduled; a cooking demonstration of favorites where families bond while preparing ingredients, cooking, savoring aroma, serving and eating the meal together. The venue however shall be arranged later.

On Oct. 1, the CJCLDS along Legarda road shall have a family history exhibit with family day activities in the morning; and an open area movie in the afternoon. The public is invited, Garambas said.

On Oct. 2. Devotional church services go on for this day, while the “Kainang Pamilya, Mahalaga day with families eating together shall be done the next day, Oct. 3. be.

All are done in celebration of the 30th National Filipino family week.
