Children’s playground to reopen on March 27
The children’s playground at Burnham Park will reopen on March 27, 2022 which will coincide with the possible resumption of face-to-face classes in Baguio City.
This was the response of Mayor Benjamin Magalong to the resolution of the Baguio City Council requesting the executive department to open the children’s playground.
In his letter, Magalong bared that there are ongoing development projects in the children’s park such as the repair and improvement of damaged and dilapidated play facilities, installation of signage and informational guides, and improvements in landscaping.
However, the mayor said the City Environment and Parks Management Office hoped to finish these projects in time for its reopening on March 27.
The children’s playground has been closed since the start of the pandemic in 2020.
According to Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda, author of the resolution, the children’s playground is a place for people, young and old alike, to relax and enjoy nature, and engage in physical and social activities. Likewise, it is where children in the city express themselves in an environment that freely allows physical, social, cognitive, and emotional development.
The councilor said all these experiences were denied to children when the said area was closed.
She claimed that the present state of the city where infections are low and where the target population responds favorably to the city government’s COVID-19 vaccination program warrants the opening of the children’s playground so that our youth will again experience the joys of childhood. –Jordan G.
