CEPMO calls for more tree planters

City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) head Atty. Rhenan Diwas calls for more tree planters this month up to September as more than Ten Thousand (10,000) assorted tree seedlings are available at the Botanical and Busol Water shed nurseries.

The seedlings are Benguet pine, Calliandra, coffee, bottle brush, cypress, bamboo, paper bark and assorted fruit trees including Duhat, cherry guava, ice cream bean fruit, mulberry and citrus.

Interested individuals or groups/agencies may visit the city hall CEPMO office and see Atty. Diwas, CEPMO Assistant head Engr. Marivic Empizo or Urban Forestry Management head Floro Bastian, or contact # 0910-532-8139.

For this month of July, the residents of barangays Brookside, Camdas, Leonila Hill, South Sanitary Camp, Sto. Rosario, Sta. Scholastica; the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Bakakeng Central, the offices of Councilors Leandro Yangot and Vladimir Cayabas, the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) and the City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) have planted at least 2,300 trees thus contributing to the saving of the environment.

These were planted at the Busol and Buyog watersheds, Botanical-Forbes Park, Melvin Jones Burnham Park, Wright Park and barangay jurisdictions. In April to June; the local government of Baguio, CEPMO and City Engineers Office (CEO) employees, and barangays South Drive, Scout Barrio, Magsaysay Private road, Upper Market Subdivision, Pacdal, Sta. Scholastica, East Bayan Park, North Sanitary Camp, Campo Filipino, Gabriela Silang, Lower Lourdes, Lopez Jaena, Greenwater village, New Lucban, Brookspoint, Upper Magsaysay, Bayan Park Village, Ambiong, Middle Quirino Hill, Sout Sanitary Camp, Campo Sioco, Loakan-Apugan, West Quirino Hill, Sort Del Pilar, Victoria Village, Country Club, Salud Mitra, Atok Trail, City Camp Central, Kayang Hilltop, and Honeymoon-Holy Ghost have planted 4,449 seedlings/saplings in various locations; Arboretum, Botanical garden nursery site, Dominican Hill, Busol, Aguinaldo Park, Pine Trees of the World, Atok Trail Mining site and barangay jurisdictions.Collaborative planters are Benguet State University Nursing students, Saint Louis University Girl’s high batch ’67, UC Commission on Higher Education scholars 1 and 2, Taichi group, La Faayette, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Tree cart parade participants, Concentrix, Baguio City Police Office substation 6 Aurora Hill, UC Integrated School, Bureau of Fire Protection, Adventist Community Service, Dagsian Jitney Drivers and Operators Association, Treasure Link Coop Society, Saint Louis University, SLU-EISSIF and Suntrust.In January to March, CEPMO employees led the planting of at least 800 seedlings at the Botanical Tree Nursery Area, Camp 7 Panchayat, Lexber Heights, Forbes Park, Arboretum, Balakbak, Bayan Park, Wright Park and Sto Tomas.They were joined by UP-NSTP, UC Tourism students, Allport Freight Consolidator, Baguio Center Mall, Small World Christian School, Concentrix, Philippine Dental Association, SK Bayan Park, Ausphin International Institute Culinary Arts Mgmt.

A thousand and two hundred (1,200) tree seedlings/saplings were also distributed at Malcolm Square on Sundays in the month of June where residents committed to planting and nurturing them to maturity, in their areas of responsibility.

Of date, a total of 8,749 seedlings have been dispersed.

The tree planting activities are part of the city and country’s contribution to global warming and climate change mitigation, where small efforts count to big impacts to the environment.It is also part of the celebration of Environment Month and Saleng Festival, with replacement planting and tree care activities this month up to September. – JGFianza, with reports from Urban Forestry Management Division – CEPMO
