CEO reports on status of major city projects
The City Engineering Office (CEO) recently reported on the status of various major projects of the city government funded not only by the city but also by government agencies.
City Engineer Edgar Victorio Olpindo disclosed that the ongoing land development for the city’s socialized housing project at Irisan barangay funded by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DSHUD) is around 25.23 percent complete with the expected date of completion on April 5, 2023.
On the installation of pedestrian brisk walking and bicycle lanes in various roads in the city, he reported that the said project is around 60 percent completed although this has been suspended due to the ongoing asphalting activities of the public works department but it is still expected to be completed by May 27, 2022.
Further, the road widening project along Carino St, Lower QM barangay is 75 percent complete and is expected to be fully completed by June 1, 2022.
Olpindo claimed that the replacement of conventional to energy-efficient street light was already completed last March 25, 2022, ahead of the programmed completion date of April 18, 2022 with some 7,485 high pressure sodium street lights replaced with Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs.
However, the city engineer said that the city government needs some 1,846 additional LED bulbs to complete the replacement of all conventional streetlights with energy efficient LED fixtures which can save the city approximately 50 percent in its power bills being charged by the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) to the city.
He revealed that the aforesaid project was funded with more than P109 million from the city government’s supplemental budget.
The city government issued the notice to proceed to the contractor of the repair and improvement of sidewalk along Session Road which will have a duration of 263 calendar days and is expected to be completed on December 11, 2022.
On the continuation of the post-closure stabilization of the Irisan dumpsite phase 2 of the Eco Park project, he stipulated that the project had already been pre-bided last March 22, 2022 in the amount of P25 million.
Moreover, he added that the proposed Carantes-Perfect St. improvement project was already pre-procured on March 22, 2022 and will be bidded out once there is an exemption from the Commission on Election (Comelec).
On the repair of the sidewalk along Session Road, Olpindo stipulated that the P20 million earmarked for the project will be good only for the right side of the city’s main thoroughfare while another P40 million is needed for the left side going up for such sidewalk repair and improvement to be realized.
He assured that the CEO is closely monitoring the implementation of all infrastructure projects being undertaken by their office to ensure that these will be pursuant to the project specifications and standards for quality work. – Dexter A. See
