Barangays told to include youth programs in annual plans

City officials requested the inclusion of youth-related programs and activities in the year-round plan of barangays in the city to help in strengthening the active participation of the youth in various activities of the barangays.

Under Resolution No. 567, series of 2022, city legislators stated that involving youth participation in programs and activities will be a great help to the entire community, most especially the youth themselves, such as, but not limited to, clean  up drives; clean and green/beautification programs; environmental protection and preservation seminars/trainings; literacy programs; emergency preparedness and basic first aid trainings; youth development councils; out of school youth literacy programs; sports fests and scouting movement programs.

During the Scout Official for a Day (SOFAD) regular session held on November 7, 2022, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Alliah E. Maon which earnestly requested the inclusion of youth-related programs and activities in the year-round plans of barangays in the city.

The body underscored that “Youth for a Cause” is a comprehensive project composed of activities widely focused on adolescence in each barangay.

As suggested by the elders who have done so much in the community, the youth must actively participate in activities and programs to help them learn new skills and the basics of life.

Due to information transmission issues, the council claimed that many youngsters are not actively participating in barangay programs or activities and are unaware of the great activities their barangay is conducting.

According to the body, many barangays need a year-round strategy, particularly for youth initiatives, and the barangay money would be wisely used for the development and promotion of new information and skills for the youth.

The council asserted that millions of individuals were isolated due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that many young people are now turning to the virtual world which impacts their physical and mental health.

Copies of the approved resolution will be furnished to the concerned offices and barangays for their information, guidance and ready reference. – Dexter A. See
