PASAY CITY, May 12 — Temporary ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Philippines Representative, Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Jaime Victor B. Ledda, encouraged the youth to increase their engagements in various platforms and discussions in order to champion human rights in the region during the All About AICHR: Strengthening Youth Engagement online forum held on 7-9 May 2021.
The Philippines also highlighted the responsibility of adults towards the protection of human rights discourse by providing safe, open, and non-discriminatory spaces for the youth.
“The youth have been instrumental in creating socio-economic activities and norms. TikTok videos, woke fandoms, socio-political memes – all these contribute to relevant discussions on human rights, engraving a permanent space for today’s youth in the world today,” Assistant Secretary Ledda emphasized.
The All About AICHR forum was spearheaded by the School of Advocacy for Youth on Human Rights in Southeast Asia (SAY-HR-SEA), an initiative organized by ASEAN Youth Forum, Plan International Asia Pacific, and AICHR Indonesia to raise awareness on human rights among the youth, and was participated in by over 300 participants from the youth sector of ASEAN Member States.
