PWD Organizations Strengthen Unity and Empowerment Through Benchmarking and Learning Visit

A meaningful and successful benchmarking and visitation activity was recently conducted by the PWD Organization of Sto. Rosario Valley under the leadership of Punong Barangay Edwin M. Tablada. The activity served as an opportunity to strengthen camaraderie, expand knowledge, and inspire members through learning exchanges with fellow organizations advocating for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Upon their arrival at Barangay Irisan, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Elizabeth Bayla, President of the PWD Irisan Barangay Organization. During the discussion, Bayla shared that despite the barangay’s large population, their organization continues to work tirelessly in supporting and empowering persons with disabilities within their community.

Bayla became an inspiration to the visiting organization as she shared her personal journey and accomplishments as an archery athlete who proudly represented the country in Thailand and won a bronze medal. Her story demonstrated that no disability can hinder a person from achieving success and fulfilling their dreams.

She also discussed their continuing efforts in promoting mini-Paralympic activities for persons with disabilities, especially children, to help them discover and showcase their talents, abilities, and potential.

In addition, Bayla shared several livelihood initiatives being implemented by their organization, including their hydro livelihood project designed to provide sustainable income opportunities for PWD members. She encouraged the Sto. Rosario Valley organization is to establish similar livelihood programs within their barangay to support further and empower the community.

She also emphasized the importance of urban gardening, encouraging residents to start with simple container or potted gardening, even in limited spaces, as a practical way to promote food sustainability and environmental awareness. According to her, many government agencies remain willing to support livelihood and development programs for persons with disabilities.

Meanwhile, Barangay Kagawad Edward Tamayo delivered an inspiring message highlighting the vital role of women in community development. He expressed admiration for the quick thinking, resilience, and responsiveness of women, emphasizing that women are strong and dependable partners of men in implementing community programs and public service initiatives.

Barangay staff also presented the various assistance programs available for residents, including medical, burial, and educational assistance. Their dedication and commitment to serving the community were highly appreciated, especially considering the large population they cater to.

Following the discussion, the visiting group was given the opportunity to tour the building currently under construction, which will soon serve as the future office for persons with disabilities in the barangay. Members spent time taking photographs, exchanging stories, and creating meaningful memories during the visit.

The delegation later proceeded to the Eco Park, where they met Sir Baldera Loly, who conducted an informative lecture on the importance of the Black Soldier Fly in managing biodegradable waste. Participants learned valuable insights about environmental protection, waste management, and sustainable cleanliness practices.

Most of the day was spent in Barangay Irisan due to the valuable experiences and knowledge shared during the activity. At around 2:00 PM, the group then traveled to Bayan Park where they were warmly welcomed by Ma’am Mura Regacho.

Regacho shared that their area currently has around eight PWD members, some of whom are bedridden and unable to actively participate in community activities. Despite these challenges, she wholeheartedly assisted the visitors and welcomed them into the park where a simple fellowship gathering for snacks and lunch was held.

During the gathering, members exchanged ideas and discussed the learnings they gained from the visitation in Barangay Irisan. A short meeting was also conducted, followed by a Zumba activity promoting health, wellness, and active living among participants.

The members enjoyed walking around the park, sharing stories, laughing together, and strengthening their bonds as an organization. The activity brought joy, relaxation, inspiration, and renewed motivation to everyone who participated.

It was truly heartwarming to witness the happiness and unity among the members of the PWD Organization of Sto. Rosario Valley. Through this meaningful activity, the organization further strengthened its fellowship, solidarity, and commitment to empowering persons with disabilities within the community.

Barangay officials emphasized that this activity marks only the beginning of more programs and projects being planned under the leadership of Punong Barangay Edwin M. Tablada to continuously strengthen, develop, and support persons with disabilities in the community.
