Reorganization of sister cities committee proposed
The city’s Sister Cities Executive Committee recommended the reorganization of the composition of the body following the earlier intentions of some members to be replaced and to conform with the current trend of the times. The proposed reorganization of this committee is part of the ongoing efforts of the city government in updating the composition of various working committees pursuant to existing laws, rules and regulations.
Earlier, some committee members already signified with the body their desire to be replaced following their numerous years serving as the representatives of their sectors and that for the same to be passed on to those who are willing to continue their services with the local government.
The committee also nominated several respected individuals in the city who will be appointed by the mayor to represent their respective sectors when the body is reorganized based on the updated executive order that will be issued for the said purpose.
Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong is expected to issue an executive order reconstituting the city’s Sister Cities Executive Committee and Secretariat after receiving the recommendations from the committee to update the body’s composition and to start exploring potential sister and twinning relationships with various international and local cities.
The applications for sisterhood or twinning relationships with Baguio City pass through the scrutiny of the Sister Cities Executive Committee which issues the required favorable recommendations prior to the approval that will be made by the local legislative body.
The committee wants to maximize the potentials of its existing and future sisterhood relations with other international and local cities for various exchanges related to education, culture and arts, student exchange, tourism promotion, seasonal workers among others that will pave the way for enhanced exposure of residents.
Pending before the Sister Cities Executive Committee are proposals for the establishment of sisterhood or twinning relationships with some international and local cities that will be realized once the body makes the proper favorable recommendations following the conduct of thorough deliberations once reorganized by the local chief executive. – Dexter A.
