Human Rights Assembly for city’s barangay officials, set on Dec. 5

Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Nov. 28, has enjoined the city’s Punong Barangays and Barangay  Human Rights Action Team (BHRAcT) Federation officers to attend a General Assembly organized by the  Commission on Human Rights-Cordillera Administrative Region (CHR-CAR) on Dec. 5 at the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) building, Lower Rock Quarry, here.

In a Nov. 23 letter to the Mayor, CHR Regional Dir. Romel Daguimol disclosed that the whole-day activity will serve as a continuing capacity building for the sustainability of the Summer Capital’s Barangay Human Rights Action Center Program.

“Primarily, the new set of Punong Barangays are expected to implement the reconstitution of their respective BHRAcTs as an offshoot of this capacity building,” he said.

Another objective of the activity, Daguimol added, is to update the members of the Baguio City Federation of BHRAcTs.

Among the topics to be discussed during the assembly include Human Rights in Good Local Governance; Basic Concepts and Principles of Human Rights and State Obligations; Updates from the Baguio City Committee on Laws and Human Rights; and more. – Gaby B. Keith
