10,419 jobs up for grab in Labor Day Fair

Some ten thousand four hundred nineteen local and overseas jobs will be up for grab by jobseekers in the upcoming Labor Day jobs fair in the city to be held at the Baguio Convention Center on May 1, 2022.

The available employment opportunities for jobseekers during the first face-to-face jobs fair after the Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019 pandemic will be composed of 5,712 overseas jobs and 4,707 local vacancies.

Romelda Frances Escano, Labor and Employment Officer of the City Public Employment and Service Office (ESO), disclosed that there will be some 23 local employers and 10 overseas agencies participating in the said jobs fair that will run from 8 am to 5 pm on Labor Day.

However, she advised interested jobseekers to pre-register with the PESO at the city hall and the regional office of the labor department at Cabinet Hill as part of the compliance of the organizers to the implementation of the health and safety protocols to prevent the long lines of job seekers on the said day.

The final day of pre-registration will be on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the People’s Park to ensure that jobseekers will be immediately ushered to the interview venue to prevent them from lining up for registration on the said day.

Aside from the available jobs offered to the public, organizers will also be providing free haircut, manicure, pedicure and massage services for them to have a chance to relax while awaiting the results of their on the spot interview or on the spot examination that will be provided by their prospective employers.

The Labor Day jobs fair in the city is being closely monitored by the labor departmentโ€™s Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) for being one of the most promising jobs fair in the country because of the high rate of jobseekers hired on the spot by local and overseas employers.

The city government in partnership with the regional office of the labor department is usually holding at least three jobs fairs annually such as the Labor Day jobs fair, the Kalayaan jobs fair every June 12 and the Baguio Charter Day jobs fair every September in time for the celebration of the cityโ€™s charter anniversary every September 1.

Escano called on interested jobseekers to make sure they have multiple copies of their credentials so that they will be able to apply for as many vacancies as they desire that suit their qualifications.

Further, she advised them to be prim and proper when attending the said jobs fair for them to be able to earn the trust and confidence of their prospective employers once they pass the imposed criteria.

The PESO official expressed hope that the conduct of the face-to-face jobs fair will continue in the upcoming jobs fairs after the said mode shifted to virtual during the height of the Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019 pandemic over the past 2 years. – Dexter A. See
