Councilor Mylen Victoria Yaranon in a resolution has requested the City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO) to put up a replica of the old โ€œWELCOME TO BAGUIOโ€ signage at the Upper Session Road Rotunda for the whole month of September as part of this yearโ€™s Baguio Day celebration.

According to the councilor, the purpose of the structure is to help create new memories for the younger generations and help evoke a feeling of nostalgia among older residents as they recall their fond memories of Baguio. It will also serve as an attraction to tourists and locals for the said event, the councilor added.

She explained that nostalgia provides a number of psychological benefits such as empathy, stress reduction, happiness, and warmth, further stressing that it can be used to combat loneliness and improve resilience as studies have shown.

During the 1960โ€™s, a โ€œWELCOME TO BAGUIOโ€ signage was installed at the Upper Session Road  and was featured in old postcards about Baguio City.

Yaranon underscored that the installation of the replica would serve to remind people in the city of the old days and of better days to come. –Kimberly Badang
