BENGUET —For the first time in recent months, Benguet Representative Eric Go Yap was seen back on the ground, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with his constituents in some of the hardest-hit communities of Typhoon Uwan.
Yap traveled to Kabayan and Buguias to personally meet families who lost loved ones when heavy rains and landslides triggered by Uwan swept through their villages. The congressman offered condolences directly to the bereaved, including the family of a 65-year-old fatality reported earlier this week.
Along with the visit, Yap also handed burial assistance to affected families, an immediate aid many described as both timely and deeply appreciated as they struggle to rebuild in the aftermath of the storm.
Residents noted that this was the first time in a while that Yap was visibly present in grassroots communities, making the visit more than just a ceremonial stop. For families facing grief and uncertainty, his presence served as a reminder that the province’s leaders have not forgotten them.
Local officials said the assistance forms part of continuing support efforts for victims of Typhoon Uwan, with more aid and assessments expected in the coming days.
In a period marked by loss and recovery, Yap’s return to the field provided a small but very meaningful spark of reassurance to communities still clawing their way back from the storm’s devastation. #
