Quezon Province honors the 127th Araw ng Kalayaan, Trece de Octubre, with Book Launch

Lucena, Quezon – “Trece de Agosto 1898: Araw ng Kalayaan ng Lalawigan ng Quezon” book launch was held last August 13 at the Cultural Arts Center (Kalilayan Hall) by the Provincial Government of Quezon through the Tuklas Tayabas Historical Society Inc. and Quezon Province Heritage, History, Culture and Arts Council (QPHHCAC).

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) graced the occasion along with the Quezon Province HHCAC and Board member John Joseph Aquivido and provincial Tourism Officer NEsler Louies Almagro. The book author, Mark Anthony Glorioso, had the privilege to launch the “Trece de Agosto” book with representatives of libraries and other Quezon towns. The book featured 12 chapters narrating the Tayabas Siege with some remarks by John Valdeavilla, the Vice Chair of QPHHCAC, and Ryan Palad of ATAGAN (Alternatibong Tahanan ng mga Akda at GAwang Nasaliksik).

“Sa pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Kasaysayan, gunitain natin ang makasaysayang araw na ito sa ating lalawigan gayundin ang katapangan at pagka makabansa ng mga bayani ng Pagkubkob ng Tayabas (Tayabas Siege). Tuwing buwan ng Agosto, hindi lamang ang Niyogyugan Festival ang ipinagdiriwang ng lalawigan ng Quezon, kundi pati na rin ang Araw ng Kalayaan ng lalawigan alinsunod sa Provincial Ordinance No. 2023-011 na nilagdaan ni Gov. On August 13, 1898, General Eleuterio Marasigan, Miguel Malvar, and Vicente Lukban officially surrendered made the Spanish authorities to Filipino Revolutionaries. With the Provincial Ordinance No. 2023-011 approved on July 21, 2023, and signed by Quezon Governor Angelina “Doktora Helen” DL Tan, it was declared that Trece de Agosto 1898 as Araw ng Kalayaan ng Lalawigan ng Quezon.

“August 13, 2025. Mula 1995 ay sinasaliksik ang kasaysayan ng Trese de Agosto sa Tayabas. Mabuti at may nagpatuloy ng saliksik at nagsumigasig na kilalanin ito ng Lalawigan ng Quezon at maging ng NHCP sa paglalagay ng tala sa bagong marker ng Simbahan ng Tayabas. Salamat kina John de Valdeavilla at Mark Anthony Jacob Glorioso sa pagpapatuloy. Sana ay may mga bata pang magiging interesado sa kasaysayan ng bayan.
