Intensifying the Administration’s campaign against illegal drugs, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. conducts an inspection of the seized drug haul at the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) National Headquarters in Diliman, Quezon City on 24 June 2025.

The President examines the confiscated substances, which include methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu discovered by local fishermen off the coast of Luzon, and assorted dangerous drugs seized from various anti-drug operations.

Set for destruction through thermal decomposition are 1,304.604 kilograms (kgs) of shabu with an estimated street value of PhP8.8 billion. These drugs were found floating in the waters of the Provinces of Zambales, Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Cagayan.

Aside from shabu, another 226.043 kgs of assorted dangerous drugs worth approximately PhP609 million that were intercepted during separate operations are also scheduled for destruction under court orders.

According to PDEA Director General Isagani R. Nerez, the contraband will be destroyed within 24 hours at a location to be announced later, following completion of the inspection.

Prior to today’s visit, President Marcos Jr. had directed the country’s law enforcement agencies to intensify the security and monitoring of coastlines and maritime routes to prevent future drug smuggling attempts.

In a short speech, with President Marcos Jr.,”Andito tayo ngayon para tignan itong latest na nahuli natin mostly shabu methamphetamine hydrochloride, eto yun nababalitaan natin na nakita o lumulutang na lang of our Western Coastline dun sa mostly Region 1 hanggang Zambales.

This is the largest drug haul in the history of the Philippines so far for the last six-month period.

Lahat-lahat in the last 3 years, we have been able to interdict P62B worth of methamphetamine na nahuli natin, which is the largest considering the time that we are putting it under the 3 years lamang.

What will happen now, kagaya ng nakikita nyo dito “No case filed, nor person apprehended” dahil ito ay kinuha ng mga mangingisda kinolekta nila na lumulutang na lang sa dagat at dinala sa ating mga authorities, kaya hindi na natin malaman kung saan nanggaling, kung anong barko ang nagdala rito, ngunit at least masasabi natin na dito sa ganitong kalaki na nahuli natin na dapat ipapasok sa Pilipinas na shabu marami tayong nailigtas na mga kababayan natin na kung lumabas ito, ang mangyayari ay marami na naman magiging adik, marami na naman mamamatay sa overdose, marami na naman masisira ang buhay. Yan ay nabawasan natin dahil sa paghuli nitong patuloy natin paghuhuli ng mga pagpasok.

Ito ang naging bunga nung naging instruction ko sa ating mga awtoridad na dapat ay unahin natin tignan kung saan pumapasok ang malalaking shipment ng droga at medyo namo monitor na rin natin at nakikita na rin natin.

Ang isa pang katangian nitong paghuli nitong mga nakikita niyong droga ay ang kooperasyon ng ating pangkaraniwang na mamamayan, mga mangingisda sila ang unang nakahanap nito, yun unang huli sila ang nakakita niyan at pagkatapos dinala nila sa pulis at nagkaron na ng joint operation para makuha ito makolekta yun mga sumunod, kaya nakikita niyo kung ganu karami ang nakuha natin.
