Mayor revokes disinfection order as state of public health emergency is lifted

Mayor Benjamin Magalong encouraged city government workers to adopt a risk-based approach to health and safety measures, ensure regular cleaning and maintenance of respective work areas and work spaces to uphold cleanliness and hygiene standards, and ensure proper ventilation of work spaces to minimize the risk of airborne transmission.
He issued, August 23, memorandum no. 64, series of 2023, to all city hall officials, department heads and employees, which stated that in compliance with Proclamation 297, series of 2023, (Lifting of the State of Public Health Emergency throughout the Philippines due to Covid-19), memo no. 740, series of 2021, and all previous disinfection memos issued in relation to the said state of emergency has been revoked.
The revocation includes, but is not limited to, directives and instructions pertaining to the disinfection of work spaces and respective work areas.
The State of Public Health Emergency was declared through Proclamation 922, series of 2022, in response to the global Covid-19 pandemic where precautionary measures, including disinfection protocols, were implemented to mitigate the spread of diseases and ensure the public’s safety.
“However, with the improved situation and the decision to lift the State of Public Health Emergency, it is deemed necessary to revise our approach to reflect the evolving circumstances,” the Mayor’s memo stated. – Gaby B. Keith
