Launching of e-Vehicle charging station in SM City Baguio

BAGUIO CITY – The ribbon cutting was led by SM North 1 AVP for Operations, Engr. Marc Janssen T. Pe, Mall Manager Rona Vida B. Correa, Asst. Mall Manager Michael Jason N. Peña, Emicor Inc. President Mike De Joya, DENR EMB CAR Regional Director – Ms. Ma. Victoria Abrera, DOST Asst. Regional Director Dr. Pepita S. Picpican, and Baguio City Mayor’s Office Representative – Engr. Doy Tabilog held at Upper Basement Parking near the Mall Entrance on November 15, 2022.

Engr. Pe said, “SM Supermalls leads mall innovation with the very first mall EV charging station in the country. This is part of SM’s commitment to building a greener environment for all Filipinos under the SM Green Movement Campaign,”

“SM City Baguio contributes to a sustainable and environment caring community of Baguio City and also supports the government’s National Renewable Energy Program to promote a more eco-friendly society to the city and the community. An act that we hope can set the trend in the country,”

“The EV charging station in SM City Baguio will feature the Tritium EV Charger from Emicor, SM Supermalls’ EV charging partner, making it the first mall in the City of Pines to bring free charging to its customers who use electric vehicles,”

Emicor Inc. President Mike De Joya explains the charging process on how to charge and the charging time.

He said, “Over the past two years automotive technology has a goal and seen innovation unlike the other before hybrid and electric vehicles have become increase to popular than mainstream in not only developed countries but developing countries it’s now time for a country to catch up to with the best development,”

“We are proud, happy, and honored to partner with SM Supermalls specifically here in Baguio by installing the first fast easy charger in SM Baguio, with an average charging time of 50 km per 10 minutes, we can drive up to SM Baguio charge your vehicle go shopping or drop something to eat and in less an hour your vehicle charge as fast just like charge your cellphone,”

“This is to 50 km per 10 minutes this is the fastest charger right now in the country,”

Also, the Emicor Service Manager Jojo Caguntas said,” The said charger can top up an average electric vehicle in just 30 minutes to an hour. The Tritium EV Charger is compatible with vehicles that are common in Europe, Australia, and South America, like the Renault Zoe, Peugeot e-208, Porsche Taycan, Volkswagen e-Golf, Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Ioniq, Audi e-tron, BMW i3, Jaguar I-PACE. It is also compatible with Japanese-made vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf and the Mitsubishi Outlander,”

“The chargers come with Type 2 connectors therefore compatible with EVs that accept the Type 2 connectors. For vehicles that do not have Type 2 connectors, you may still use the chargers if you are able to provide a proper adapter that lets you connect your vehicle to our chargers.
