Island Education Network to organize a Webinar showcasing innovation and state-of-the-art practices
The Island Education Network (IEN) of the Island Innovation and The Edge Foundation was born out of years of conversation, through the Virtual Island Summit and beyond, where it became clear that island education systems, despite their differences, share common challenges and uncommon solutions.
Co-led by Island Innovation and The Edge Foundation, IEN now brings together educators, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners from island and coastal communities worldwide.
By May 26, 15:30-16:30 BST, it hosts its first showcase of innovative practice from across the British Isles. Some of the most interesting developments in education are currently taking place on islands. This is your chance to see why.
As an offshoot of the perennial Virtual Island Summit and beyond, it became clear that island education systems, despite their differences, share common challenges and uncommon solutions. The “Showcase of Innovative Island Education” webinar brings together three practitioners whose work is quietly reshaping what education can look like in island contexts.
The webinar would be hosted by Olly Newton, Executive Director of The Edge Foundation, with co-host Ariana Abdul-Nour from Island Innovation, and would feature Helen Hillier from the Isle of Man, discussing the development of careers education at the primary level. In addition, Richard Tarves of the E-sgoil, Outer Hebrides, would be talking on expanding access through online teaching. Finally, Chris Torode from the Guernsey Institute would be sharing on designing apprenticeships rooted in local opportunity. # Randy T. Nobleza Ph. D.
