Health official reminds on importance of safe toys this Christmas

The Health Services Office of the city government of Baguio reminds the public on the importance of safe toys for children this gift-giving season.

Dr. Donnabel T. Panes of the CHSO Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit appealed to parents to ensure age-appropriate toys given as gifts to their kids as well check on safety labels to avoid exposure to toxic substances such as lead resulting in poisoning.

“Toys with tiny parts might cause choking or accidents for battery-operated ones and as a safety precaution, parents need to check on the safety stickers called the Import Commodity Clearance by the Department of Trade and Industry before buying these,” Panes said.

She said the same safety check applies on online purchases including cosmetics that should pass Food and Drugs Administration standards. The health reminder is being issued as a precautionary measure on unsafe toys or led poisoning. – JM Samidan
