City receives 9 vehicles from EU-GEP for ‘Pansa-Nopen’ program
The city government received an additional donation of three light trucks from the European Union-Philippines Green Economy Partnership (EU-GEP) through the United Nations Green Economy Partnership) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for its Circular Economy or “Pansa-nopen Tayo”.
The latest set of vehicles is intended for the city’s food waste collection to complement the operation of its Black Soldier Fly facilities.
The six utility vans earlier handed over by the EU-GEP and UNDP officials last Dec. 2 were intended for recyclable waste collection for the six pilot barangays of Gibraltar, Guisad Central, Irisan, Bakakeng Central, Dominican Mirador, Happy Hollow.
The collected plastics will be brought to the barangay materials recovery facilities (MRFs) of these barangays. The collected plastic wastes will help women and other GEDSI groups develop circular economy business models from recyclables.
This is part of the key projects included in Pansa-nopen Tayo work plans of the city which the EU-GEPP through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)agreed to finance in the amount of approximately P20 million to roll out programs on sustainable waste management.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong again thanked the EU-GEPP and the UNDP through Dr. Marjorie Balay-as, UNDP Local Government Unit and Stakeholder Engagement Specialist, for their full support to the cityβs thrust to transition to circular economy which he said aligns with the cityβs overall development agenda. – Aileen P.
