Earlier, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated the 5th day of October of every year as World Teachers Day which is an important day to celebrate the very essential role that teachers play in guiding the children, youth, adults and all learners through the lifelong learning process.

Subsequently, Presidential Proclamation No. 242, series of 2011 declared September 5 to October 5 of every year as National Teachers Month which intends to highlight the very important role teachers and educators play in the successful development of the community.
