City Hall workers reminded to do ‘more for others’

“We must not only seek to do what is good, but the greater good or what the Jesuits call ‘magis’”.

Thus, declared Samantha Jean Hamada, executive assistant V of the City Mayor’s Office, in her inspirational message during flag raising rites, August 29, at City Hall.

A graduate of the Ateneo, she said that public service “was where I thought that I could deliver and exemplify true magis or doing more for others.”

Hamada advised her fellow public servants that when things get difficult, they should remember their ‘why’ like why did they enter public service? And why did they choose this particular path?

“We must make sure that those ‘whys’ position us to become ‘men and women for others’. Our ‘whys’ should drive us, empower us, unite us and push us forward on this meaningful journey of service”, she said.

Hamada shared her own ‘whys’: Para sa bayan; Para sa Baguio; Para sa taong-bayan; Para sa mga mahal ko sa buhay; at Para sa mga kasama ko sa serbisyo.

“The journey of public service is not without its trials, but it is our unwavering commitment to our ‘whys’ that empowers us to rise above adversity,” she stressed. – Gaby B. Keith
