City eyes more areas to erect parking buildings
“We need a minimum of about 14,000 and a maximum of 22,000 public parking slots to address the influx of tourists and the number of registered vehicles plying in the city of Baguio.”
This was disclosed by Mayor Benjamin Magalong in an interview during flag raising rites, August 22, at City Hall as he added that there are an approximate 56,000 registered vehicles in the Summer Capital including 15,000 motorcycles.
He explained that the number of needed public parking slots was based on a feasibility study conducted on the city’s Smart Mobility Transportation System that was part of its Smart Mobility Master Plan.
“As of today, we are looking at eight available lots but we need more than 30 parking buildings to be able to generate around 14,000 public parking slots. Based on our inventory right now, we only have around 2007,” he revealed.
Possible areas suitable for the construction of multi-level parking buildings identified by the Mayor include the Bureau of Fire Protection area, Bayan Park, auditorium area, GSIS and Baguio Convention and Cultural Center compound, Tennis Court parking area, and more. – Gaby B. Keith
