CASS researchers disseminate their recent findings during CONTReNDS

Dasmariñas, Cavite – At least six student researchers, along with some of their research mentors of the Marinduque State University (MarSU) College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) shared their research output during the 2nd Conference on technology and research for national development and sustainability last April 23 to 25 at Maria Salome Llanera Hall, De La Salle University – Dasmariñas.

Both BA Communication and BA English Language Students, faculty, and students presented their research during the said confab. Khensly Bryan Sales and Assoc Prof. Anna Roffel Lozada shared “Porket Matalino ka: Understanding Smart Shaming through Student Narratives in Marinduque. Meanwhile, Shainna Mae Batayola and Asst. Prof. Christina Atienza imparted “Who Wrote that? A comparative analysis of Linguistic Features of Human-authored and AI-generated Texts.” In addition, Klein Maling and Assoc Prof. Dr. Randy Nobleza discussed “Revitalizing Baybayin: A semiotic cultural study of digital artworks in Philippine Creative Media.”

Then, Sunshina Sena delivered “Exploring the Linguistic Landscape of Buenavista Poblacion, Marinduque.” Along with them, Maria Luisa Lumanog and Asst. Prof. and Program chair Jholey Rose Lancion elaborated on “Linguistic Innovation in the Digital Age: Word Formation Process and Phonological Analysis of Gen Alpha Slang in Social Media.” Finally, Kristine Burgos, with Asst Prof. and Director of International Relations and Linkages Office, Lancion, also digressed on “AI vs Human Writing: A stylistic analysis on the Journalistic Writing Style of Sentro – the official student publication of Marinduque State University.”

The MarSU CASS has a research agenda and roadmap for 2026-30, Island Innovation for Impact. Specifically for BAC, BA ELS, and BS Social Work. With the Strategic Internationalization Program emplaced, partnership and collaboration with both local and international institutions is highly appreciated. Marinduque Island Studies is also benchmarking the DLSU D Cavite Studies Center in addition to Bukidnon State University (BUKSU), Bukidnon Studies Center, and Palawan State University (PSU) Palawan Studies Center to offer an institutional course about cultural heritage and island studies. #
