BTC recognizes the valuable contributions of local media in promoting Baguio’s tourism sector
Baguio Tourism Council Chairperson Gladys A. Vergara awarded the Certificate of Recognition to Nonette Bennette in recognition of her 30 years of service in the field of journalism and Ericson Ferrer – President of the Kapisanan ng mga Broadcasters ng Pilipinas (Baguio-Benguet Chapter) in recognition of his 25 years of outstanding contributions and dedicated service as a member of local media in Baguio City.
Throughout this time, they have exemplified the highest standards of journalism and actively supported the promotion of tourism in the City of Baguio.
Their steadfast commitment to truth and public service continues to have a positive impact on the lives of the people of Baguio.
Presented this 23rd day of September 2024 during the fellowship dinner at the Baguio Palace Hotel hosted by the BTC in honor of members of the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC) and the Kapisanan ng mga Broadcasters ng Pilipinas (KBP)
Witnessed by City Tourism Officer Alec Mapalo, Ferdinand John Balanag – G7 Sectoral Representative and Thomas F. Picaña – President, Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club.
That morning, several media personalities received the awards for their long-standing support in promoting local tourism of the Baguio Tourism Council’s Stakeholders Assembly program at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center.
Among them, three distinguished journalists received the Lifetime Achievement Award for their 50 years of dedicated service: Jimmy Lozano, also known as Lolo Doro of Z Radio; former broadcaster and publisher/editor-in-chief of the defunct Baguio Reporter, Eliral Refuerzo; and retired Philippine Daily Inquirer bureau chief, Rolando Fernandez.
Notable recipients include PTV4 Cordillera station manager Richard Valdez, March Fianza, and retired RPN DZBS manager Malou Pascual, all of whom have 40 years of service. The 30-year service honorees include BCBC president Thomas Picaña and Radyo ng Bayan reporter and former BCBC president Joseph Cabanas, Sam Bautista, among others.
