BCDA supports Korean nationals’ legal move, reaffirms support for stakeholders

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) acknowledges and supports the decision of affected Korean nationals to pursue legal action against Sobrepeña-led Camp John Hay Development Corporation (CJHDevCo) regarding their lease agreements within Camp John Hay, Baguio City.

BCDA takes the concerns raised by affected members of the Korean community seriously, and affirms its commitment to a transition process that is lawful, transparent, and compassionate.

“This is a welcome development. We are happy to see that the sublessees/ stakeholders have finally taken the correct course of action or legal remedy which is to run after the person or entity who got their money,” BCDA Chairperson Atty. Larry Paredes said.

“Said company must be accountable and liable for its own representations and commitments. We are confident that justice will ultimately prevail,” he added.

In coordination with relevant government agencies, BCDA continues to extend assistance to all stakeholders, including foreign retirees. This includes translation support and one-on-one consultations to help clarify their options through mutually beneficial and law-compliant lease arrangements.

BCDA respects the decision of affected individuals to seek redress through the courts and welcomes the opportunity for these issues to be reviewed by the appropriate legal authorities.
