Baguio is a safe and peaceful place for students — Mayor

“Rest assured that we have a very peaceful and safe city of Baguio.”

This was the assurance given by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, August 22, to students, especially those coming from other places, as many classes in the Summer Capital’s educational institutions have already begun or are about to start for the 2023-2024 school calendar.

However, the Mayor still reminded them to observe safety measures and make sure that they are conscious of their security even though he disclosed that the city has significantly reduced incidents of street crimes by as much as 43 percent compared to earlier figures.

“Students should avoid unsafe activities and instead concentrate on their studies and make sure that they spend their money wisely while studying here in the city,” Magalong advised.

To new students coming to Baguio, he advised them to take along all-weather attire like jackets, including raincoats and umbrellas, due to the rainy season pointing out that the city has one of the highest amounts of rainfall in the country.

“They should keep themselves warm and dry since the number of flu cases here is again increasing. So mag-ingat lang sila lagi,” the Mayor stressed.

As home to several prestigious universities coupled with a relatively cool climate that is conducive to learning, Baguio is considered as the ‘Educational Center of the North’ where thousands of students from all over the country choose to study. – Gaby B. Keith
