Additional activities for Children’s Month scheduled

Additional activities including an art workshop, exhibit launching and and child development center engagement through the Baguio City Public Library (BCPL) were slated for the 30th National Children’s Month (NCM) celebration.

Through the lead agency City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) for the NCM celebration, an art workshop/exhibit shall be launched 8 AM, on Nov. 20, Sunday, at Camp John Hay Manor grounds. This is in coordination with the Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and other government agencies, Sin-agi artists, the office of Councilors Elmer Datuin and Leandro Yangot, Jr., and several private establishments.  

Interested teenagers aged 14 to 18 may join the art workshop, which would prepare them for an exhibit/competition later.

On Nov. 21 to 26, a book character parade contest is conducted for the barangay child representative by personnel of the BCPL headed by Easter Wahayna-Pablo. On Nov. 25, a school engagement was done at Camp 7 Elementary School; on the 28th, a Child Development Center engagement for Brookspoint and South Sanitary Camp, all through the BCPL staff.       

In the months of November and December, signing up for book lovers’ club Parent and Child Edition shall be done, specifically for story book borrowers, still with the BCPL staff. 

On December 3, a child protection forum is scheduled under the CSWD, the venue still to be decided on; while on Dec. 10, the Federation of Baguio Council for the Protection of Children (FBCPC) conducts a Children Got Talent as part of the closing ceremonies, at the Pedro Dumol Hall, BENECO, South Drive.

For the months of October up to mid-November, there were school and barangay engagements, fora on child protection, lectures on drug abuse prevention, child protection, anti-bullying, anti-trafficking done by the Barangay Council on the Protection of Children (BCPC) and FBCPC, in coordination with the different Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) substations, Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center – Women and Children Protection Unit (BGHMC-WCPU), the academe, sports enthusiasts, health authorities and environmentalists, the church and socio-civic groups.

Other activities mostly barangay-based were Children’s suit, Children Got Talent, youth team building, feeding program, Pabasa and Fun Run, which were fully supported by the local government, other offices and private groups.

The theme for the 30th National Children’s month is “Kalusugan, kaisipan at Kapakanan  ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan.” – JGF
