“The Heart of Advocacy: Kaka Abel’s Enduring Impact”
In the heart of Baguio City, a Maranao man from the south made an indelible mark on the Muslim Filipino community. Abdullah “Abel” S. Macarimpas, a retired government executive, dedicated nearly five decades of his life to serving the welfare and rights of Muslim Filipinos.
As Director III for Administrative Services of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), Abel wasn’t just a bureaucrat. He was a champion of justice, a defender of the falsely accused, and a voice for the marginalized. His presence was a beacon of hope in times of crisis, whether it was demanding police accountability or comforting grief-stricken families.
Abel’s legacy extends beyond his official title. He’s remembered as “Kaka Abel,” an elder who opened his door to those in need and raised his voice for their rights. His unwavering commitment earned him the title “The Unyielding Shield of the North,” a testament to his tireless advocacy for Muslim Filipinos in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
A man who strongly opposes the profiling of Muslim communities, particularly students from Madrasah (Islamic Institutions) across Northern Luzon, for being oppressive and discriminatory for singling out Muslims
Now, his story serves as a reminder of the power of selfless service and the impact one person can have on their community. #
