Marriages in city on a downward trend says LCRO

The city’s Local Civil Registry Office (LCRO) said that marriages being conducted in the city are in a gradual downward trend over the past three years which indicates a lesser number of bonds being solemnized.

Based on the data obtained from the LCRO, the comparative number of marriages registered from 2023 to 2025 are considered to be gradually declining.

It showed that marriages are down by 8.4 percent from 2023 to 2024 and 14.7 percent from 2024 to 2025, excluding the months of November and December for the current year.

From January to December 2023, there were 1,857 marriages that were registered by the LCRO compared to the 1,693 marriages during the same period in 2024 and only 1,269 marriages during the first 10 months of the current year.

The LCRO stated that there were some 1,549 marriages that were registered in the city from January to October 2023 and some 1,402 marriages that were documented during the same period in 2024.

According to the LCRO report, the biggest year on year drop appeared in March 2025 where there was a drastic decline of negative 18.88 percent and October 2025 that showed a decrease of negative 20 percent in the number of marriages.

The data reflected a steady decrease in marriages over the past three years with modest seasonal fluctuations.

The LCRO is responsible for registering the documents of the vital events that transpire in the life cycle of people such as birth, marriage and death aside from other related services.

Earlier, the LCRO announced the availability of its online system for the request, application and issuance of certified true copies of birth, marriage and death certificates to ensure efficient transaction processes and reduce the long queues in the said office. – Dexter A. See
