Eight families affected by boulder fall

Eight families composed of 32 individuals were affected by the boulder fall incidents at Lower Viewdeck Camp 7 amid heavy winds and rains brought by Tropical Cyclone “Crising” last July 19, 2025.
In a report to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council headed by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, City Social Welfare and Development Officer Liza Bulayungan said that five of the families had preemptive evacuation including the families that own the shanty and car crushed by the giant rocks. The other three refused evacuation.
The owner of the shanty had transferred to a relatives’ house also in Camp 7 since May 19 due to falling rock incidents.Bulayungan said the families were provided food packs and psychological first aid.
Provision of Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) and other support services will also be undertaken.A big boulder rolled down from the mountain onto the road crushing a house and a car at 1:15 p.m. This was followed by another and even larger rock mass at 5 p.m.
City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Charles Bryan Carame said no one was hurt as neither the house nor the car was occupied at the time the first boulder fell.
Camp 7 barangay, in a post, reported that a dog, an exotic bully, died in the incident.Carame said the city government is looking into the incident and barangay officials of Loakan Proper and Camp 7 are expected to file a joint report relative to earlier findings and actions done. Remedial and corrective measures are also expected to be undertaken to secure and stabilize the problem area through the Dept. of Public Works and Highways.
As of June 20, arrangements had been made for the crushing and removal of the boulders, according to Carame. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
