Speed limit apprehension increase to 129

The number of overspeeding motorists apprehended in the city has increased to 129 covering the period June 14 to June 23.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) is sustaining the strict implementation of Ordinance No. 18-2019 or the Speed Limit Ordinance of Baguio City as part of the strategy to curb the increasing trend in vehicular traffic incidents in the city.
The mayor said initial results are encouraging as a drastic drop in the number of accidents was observed following the speed limit implementation.
This can be a good indication that the imposition of a speed limit is a deterrent to road accidents, according to the mayor.
The apprehended motorists registered speeds that are beyond the prescribed maximum speed of 20 kph within the Central Business District and 30 kph in inner roads.
BCPO Director P Col Ruel Tagel said they have procured two speed guns and these have been calibrated by the Dept. of Science and Technology.
Another one has just been purchased and being processed for calibration. The BCPO is also working on procuring an Alcohol Breath Analyzer (ABA) that is compliant with the updated standard specifications released by the Land Transportation Office. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
