83 vehicles tested in four Sundays of the breathe easy Baguio free smoke emission test

As part of the 3rd Saleng Festival, the Environment Management Division of the City Environment Parks Management Office (EMD-CEPMO), since June 4 up to mid-July has conducted four Sundays of free on-the-spot smoke emission tests.
According to EMD head Engr. Sofronio Pascua, eighty-three (83) vehicles; 51 public utility jeepneys, 30 taxis and two private vehicles were tested at Harrison road or at upper Session road during the said period. Fifty-three passed the emission test while twenty-nine vehicles failed.
A vehicle was not tested due to road unworthiness, and as to Engr. Pascua’s assessment could be damaged when tested.
No fines are meted on vehicles failing the test, but owners are given advice on how to reduce particle pollution and improve fuel efficiency. Vehicles which pass the emission test are given Voluntary Emission Certificates (VEC) good for one month.
Vehicles may just drop by the testing areas on Sunday, from 9AM to 4 APM; either at upper Session road or Harrison road, with EMD personnel willing to assist, EMD deputy head Engr. Nico Parado informs motorists.
Assigned by CEPMO head Atty. Rhenan Diwas, the Roadside Inspection Testing and Monitoring Team (RITMT) have two alternating teams for the Sunday testing. Team A is led by Technician Emelito Galpo, with Jonathan Lachica, Emmanuel Pagado, Jr., Norris Wanas, Julius Wakat, Jheric Eddio; and Team B has Michael Lopez, Toedy Boado, Emerson Dulay, Concepcion Langagan, Robert Gerardo Jr. and Michael Madriaga.
The program Breathe Easy aims to reduce air pollution, protect the environment and promote sustainable transportation practices.
