8th Environment Summit for LGUs in CAR

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Benjie Magalong attended the 8th Environmental Summit last Thursday, July 10, 2025, which the Environmental Management Bureau–CAR spearheaded and gathered local leaders and advocates to strengthen regional efforts toward sustainability and inclusive environmental governance.

Mayor Benjie Magalong emphasized the need to embrace sustainable and circular systems beyond traditional compliance in his message. He underscored the importance of the Extended Producer Responsibility Act (RA 11898) as a mechanism to reduce plastic waste, promote innovation, and hold producers accountable.

“Dito po sa Baguio, yan po ang sinusulong namin. Mahirap man, pero may maliliit na tagumpay na. Mas kailangan lang natin ng mas malawak na kooperasyon at kolaborasyon upang maramdaman ang tunay na pagbabago.”

He also highlighted the power of gender-responsive environmental strategies, noting that inclusive and equitable planning leads to stronger and more resilient communities.

Mayor Benjie thanked EMB-CAR and DENR-CAR for championing these critical discussions and called on fellow LGUs to become enablers of long-term ecological integrity and community stewardship. ### MRM /EO
