Zyra Allyson Lee: Born to Taekwondo

Zyra Allyson Lee, a 17-year-old student from La Trinidad, Benguet, is no stranger to dedication and discipline.

Zyra’s Taekwondo career began when she was only six years old and her parents were trying to find an appropriate activity for her.

She first tried ballet but immediately became attracted to Taekwondo, a choice that defined her young life ever since.

Zyra believes her talent is a God-given gift and has been told that she has potential in the sport of Taekwondo which she has grown to love.

On days designated for partner drills, Zyra trains with her fellow teammates from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, which involve a set of basic stretches followed by different forms of partner drills.

She balances her academic work with the demands of training as she studies in the morning, trains in the evening and finds time between classes to finish assignments.

Zyra’s most unforgettable experience was when she was competing on stage at the Batang Pinoy 2024and sustained a severe injury which took her months to recover and get physical therapy.

While training, her coaches would check on her and ensure that she does not overdo it.

“Of course, there were moments of doubt but I coped through these,” she said.

Her vision of the future and faith helps Zyra become stronger as she stressed that her future lies with Taekwondo and in cases where the going gets tough, she prays.

In five years, she imagines herself graduating with honors feeling proud because she stuck with the game she loves.

“There is nothing impossible when you really want something. Remain focused and train your heart and mind to achieve,” is Zyra’s clear and strong message to her fellow youth. – John Batario, Baguio PIO intern / Gaby Keith
