Upward trend in city deaths noted
The city’s Local Civil Registry Office (LCRO) reported a steady upward trend in the number of deaths in the city for the past three years.
Based on the data obtained from the LCRO, the comparative number of deaths registered from the years 2023 to 2025 showed that deaths increased from 2023 to 2024 by around 4.2 percent that reflects a steady upward trend.
From January to December 2023, there were some 2,955 deaths that were recorded in the city compared to the 3,079 deaths that were reported during the same period last year.
While 2025 currently shows a drop in the number of deaths, the LCRO claimed that the same is likely due to incomplete data during the remaining months of the current year.
From January to October this year, there were already 2,614 deaths in the city compared to the 2,573 and 2,476 deaths which were registered during the same periods in 2024 and 2023, respectively.
LCRO Registration Officer Marieta R. Joven claimed that overall, the current trend suggests that deaths are continuing to increase in the city pending a full record for this year which could be attributed to numerous factors.
She admitted that the LCRO also entertains delayed registration of death certificates of individuals provided that their relatives are able to present appropriate supporting documents to allow them to possess duly registered copies of said certificates to support the processing of the death benefits and claims with the pertinent entities.
Joven advised the people to ensure that the documents of the vital events in their lives are duly registered with the concerned LCRO to avoid the unnecessary complications and problems that may transpire when they want to avail of certain benefits and privileges from concerned government agencies and private entities in the future. – Dexter A.
