Two dead, three others injured in Cypress accident

Two women died while three others, including two children, were injured in a parked car accident at Cypress Purok 13 Irisan 7:15 p.m. on July 12, 2025.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong who rushed to the scene said the two women aged 35 and 60 were declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The three others including two children aged nine and three of one of the fatalities and a 34-year-old woman were declared out of danger but one of the children and the adult were scheduled to undergo operations also as of July 14.
Baguio City Police Office Director P Col Ruel Tagel said the initial investigation showed that the victims were run over by a Kia Besta van which was parked but apparently rolled away due to an improperly engaged handbrake.
Mayor Magalong said the city’s social and health workers were deployed immediately after the incident to facilitate assistance to the victims.
As of July 14, the case for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple serious physical injuries and damage to property was referred to the City Prosecutor’s Office.
A police spot report said the van was parked on an inclined portion of the road by its owner who left to buy something at a sari-sari store.”The handbrake of the said vehicle was not properly engaged causing it to roll away and hit the five pedestrians who were crossing the road at that time until it crashed into an electric post,” police said.All the pedestrians sustained serious injuries on different parts of their bodies. – Aileen P.
